On October 22nd, 2018, Melvin Joseph Baumer passed away at age 82. He is survived by his beloved companion of 22 years, Lynda Astle, his 4 loving children: Sandra Burner and her husband John, Geoffrey Baumer and his wife Lisa, Kathleen Martin and her husband James, and Charles Baumer and his wife Kimberly, 7 cherished grandchildren: Adam Burner, Carl Burner, Donald H. Caison, III, Serenity Hunt, Jacob Martin, C.J. Baumer, and Karissa Baumer, 6 loving great grandchildren: Celina, Caitlyn, Autumn, Logan, Emitt, and Thalia Burner, and 1 dear sister, Amelia Jump. He is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, John Burner, III.
Most of Melvin's working life was dedicated to Carling Brewery for 37 years, where he had an active role in the Brewery's initial opening. After retirement, he worked as a part time travel agent and also volunteered as a tour guide with Ft. McHenry. Melvin also enjoyed many activities with the senior residents at both Arbutus and Ellicott City Senior Centers- playing numerous card games including poker and pinochle. He enjoyed all forms of dance lessons with his long term companion, Lynda- especially square dancing and the polka. He was an adventure-seeking world traveler and visited Alaska, China, several countries throughout Europe, and South America just to name a few.
There will be a receiving of friends on Tuesday October 30th, 2018 at HUBBARD FUNERAL HOME, INC. 4107 Wilkens Ave. Baltimore, MD 21229 from 10:30am-11:30am, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:30am. Interment will immediately follow the service at Baltimore National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family will kindly accept donations to The Little Sisters of the Poor.
