On June 10, 2020, Catherine Justice O’Brien, passed away at the age of 85 due to complications from Covid-19. She was born on June 2, 1935, as Catherine Florence Justice, to Standford Justice and Florence Mae Bishop, and sister to Standford E. Justice. She was also the stepdaughter to Henry ‘Georgie’ Bishop. All have preceded her in death.
She was the beloved wife of the late James P. O’Brien Sr. with whom she shared 64 loving and eventful years. In the true Catholic tradition, they had 7 children in 8 years: James O'Brien, Jr. and his wife Mary, Denise Williams and her husband Timmy, John O'Brien, Patrick O'Brien, Bruce O'Brien and his wife Debbie, Kathy Wineholt and her husband Bob, and Keith O'Brien and his wife Sandy.
Catherine was affectionately known as “Nana” to all of her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Catherine spent her entire life in the Baltimore area and was a proud alumna of Western High School.
Catherine and her immediate family suffered from heart disease. Her mother, grandmother, and brother all passed away prematurely due to this disease. When Catherine was 54, she had surgery to install a stent into her artery. This surgery contributed to prolonging her life. At age 64, Catherine was featured in Woman’s Day magazine in an article about living with heart disease.
Family was everything to Catherine--Mom, Nana, Baby Catherine (some of the titles she proudly held). She was everything to those of us who loved her.
