William "Fred" Steinwedel passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023. Born on July 25, 1928 in Baltimore to parents William Frederick Steinwedel, Sr. and Lena McCall Steinwedel, Fred grew up in Arbutus where he met his wife of 71 years, Carolyn "Janet" Fee Steinwedel. Fred was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who served as a family patriarch for over thirty years.
Fred served his country as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force from 1946-1949, where he was stationed domestically in New Mexico, Massachusetts, and Mississippi. After his time with the Air Force, he began his 38-year career with the railroad, starting as a crane operator with the Pennsylvania Railroad and retiring in June 1990 as a shop foreman with Conrail.
Fred is survived by four children, William Michael Steinwedel and his wife Kathryn Ann King Steinwedel; Donald Frederick Steinwedel and his wife Karen Marie Watson Steinwedel; Nathan Eugene Steinwedel Sr. and his wife Alverta Meria Steinwedel; and Janet Linda Cronin and her husband David Frederick Cronin.
The family later expanded to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: William Frederick Steinwedel; Nathan Eugene Steinwedel, Jr.; Lindsay Nicole Duncan, her husband Lucas Christopher Duncan and their three children Lena Claire Duncan, Benjamin Quinn Duncan, Connor Thomas Duncan; they are also expecting another daughter, Nora Duncan, in approximately a month; Chelsea Sara Carver, her husband Andrew Michael Carver, and their two children Jacob Wyatt Carver and Brooks Murphy Carver; David Frederick Steinwedel; Abigail Lena Nagy, her husband Jeffrey Paul Nagy, and their daughter Lucille Linda Nagy; Megan Francis Steinwedel, and Dylan Michael Steinwedel.
