On October 30, 2022, Ruth C. Handschuh nee Smith, age 93, passed away. She was the much beloved wife of the late Adam Handschuh to whom she was married for 51 years. She is preceded in death by her 5 siblings: Doris Rhodes, Evelyn Morris, Erma Smith, Elizabeth Burck, and Harry Smith. Ruth is survived by her godson and nephew, James Burck (Barbara), nephew Richard Burck (Jackie), niece Janice Rhodes (Greg) and her sister-in-law Ruth Smith.
Ruth was born in the South Baltimore area, where she lived until she was married. Not long after, she and Adam moved out to Carroll County, where they enjoyed planting, tending, and preserving food from their gardens. Even with the distance, Ruth continued to faithfully attend her family church in South Baltimore, Grace United Church of Christ.
Married to a Marine, Ruth was active in the Women's Auxiliary of the Marine Corps League in Baltimore. She loved reading, needlework, especially crochet, and dancing. In her later years after her husband passed, she moved into the Charlestown Community in Catonsville, bringing smiles to everyone she met.
