R. Celeste Corame Michael, age 87, died at her home on Sunday, October 25th from complications of dementia. Mrs. Michael, formerly of Glen Burnie and Pasadena, had lived at Charlestown Retirement Community for the past four years. She was born on March 3, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up in Baltimore and left school in the 12th grade to become a hairdresser. She had always regretted not graduating high school, and when she was 78 years old, decided to attended the Adult External Diploma Program to receive her diploma 60 years after she would have originally graduated. Mrs. Michael married Charles H. Corame in 1940 and they had two daughters, Celeste Corame Riddle and Cheryl Corame Gallery. Mr. Corame passed away suddenly in 1962. After a brief second marriage which ended in divorce, she married Joseph G. Michael. Mr. Michael passed away in 1993. Mrs. Michael was known as an artist, an expert seamstress, a craftsperson and she also did woodworking. She painted portraits on commission. Well-liked and friendly, she enjoyed making craft items and giving them as gifts. She was also known as the �hat lady� at Church since a Sunday never went by that she didn�t wear one of her hats � some of which she made herself. She especially liked to make and wear �specialty� hats, with themes for Easter, Christmas, and St. Patrick�s Day. She also decorated her Church for all seasons with handmade banners. In addition to her two daughters and sons-in-laws, Les Riddle and Martin Gallery, Mrs. Michael is survived by a step-daughter, Kate Budreski; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 15th, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church, 200 School Lane, Linthicum, MD. Mrs. Michael had a deep love for animals and therefore, donations in her name are requested to the Baltimore Humane Society, 1601 Nicodemus Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136.
