Paul Bernard Quirk, 67, of Catonsville, Maryland, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack on August 17, 2012. He was a mathematician and a computer scientist with degrees from the College of the Holy Cross, the University of Georgia, and Johns Hopkins. Over his long career, he worked at several companies in the Baltimore area, including, for many years, Legg Mason. At the time of his death, he was employed at Vision Technologies Services. The first of John and Mary Quirk�s eight children, he was born on October 17, 1944, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from its Classical High School in 1962. He was a lover of books whose home was filled with them, floor to ceiling. He was also brilliant and kind. Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ellen Wheeler of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Lucy Pelland of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, Amy Quirk of San Francisco, Anne Quirk of Belmont, Massachusetts, Grace Quirk-Hesford of Boston, and Kathleen Quirk of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and his brother, Peter S. P. Quirk of Holyoke, Massachusetts. He also left behind seven nieces, four nephews, three great-nieces, and one great-nephew. A service for him will be held in Massachusetts.
