Barnes, Mary Morris
Mary Morris Barnes (nee Basili) 90, a 15-year resident of Charlestown Retirement Community in Baltimore, died of natural causes June 4 at the Morningside House of Friendship in Hanover where she resided for the past year. Mrs. Barnes was born in Baltimore July 18, 1918, and has lived in Maryland all her life. During her career, she was employed many places but most notably: Crown, Cork & Seal, Provident Bank, and finally, Federal Yeast, where she worked until her retirement in 1980. In her younger years, she held a real estate license and sold new cars at Fox Chevrolet. Mrs. Barnes and her first husband, Leonard G. Morris owned and operated Rex Liquors on Wise Ave., Dundalk, Maryland in the late 1950's. She is predeceased by her first husband Leonard G. Morris who passed in 1972; and her second husband, James M. Barnes in 1997. She is survived by her long-time companion, Joseph Beran, Sr. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church at Charlestown. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine Phillips of Millersville; her niece, Diane White Nemeth of Atlanta; two granddaughters, Renee Becker and Michelle Moore, and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, 2008 from 9:00 AM until10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, Charlestown Community, 719 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM in the Church. Interment will follow at Dulaney Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis MD 21401.
