Tribute
Jon Hylton was a beloved son, brother, husband, and father. He enjoyed an abundance of friends, many of whom he'd kept close since childhood. He was an avid reader; and collected quotes and references that fueled his wit. Jon was a man of few words, but the words he chose were the right ones. He listened and took notice, especially when you least expected him to.

Family Vacations at Bald Head Island, staying with friends in St. John, or simply spending idle time in the garden with Albert ("Gina's dog") inspired Jon. To him, time spent outside was the best time. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed nature in any way he could, from hummingbirds on the porch, hawks in the back yard, alligators on the golf course, fly fishing in the Patapsco or taking bonefish adventures. It all captured his attention, and the way it captured his attention sparked the affection of those who loved him.

Jon was a cattleman from a family of cattlemen. His vast knowledge and experience earned him the admiration and respect of his peers. Jon was the type of man who observed and learned from the people around him. He respected and appreciated those engaged in all aspects of the business: farmers, truckers, markets, buyers, auctioneers, everyone in the office, plant, meat shop and others. He volunteered each year grading 4H cattle at various county fairs. Jon was one of the lucky few who lived doing what he loved. The connection that he felt to his work was powerful, leading his son Jesse to follow in his footsteps.

Jon had a gravity, and his appreciation of tradition led his family to spend a great deal of time on the family farm on the edge of the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia. To Jon, time in those mountains, away from the din of everyday life was time to recharge and rejuvenate, to better understand himself and appreciate the beauty of those he cherished. Above all else, Jon was a family man. He was warm and well-loved.

Jon passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 25, 2020 leaving those who loved him heartbroken. Due to a statewide shelter in place order, service arrangements will be delayed, but a celebration will happen in time.
