John Augustus Blakemore, Jr., of Richmond, Virginia died Wednesday, May 25th.He was born on January 10, 1929 in Emory, Virginia.He graduated from Virginia Military Institute and served in Germany from 1952-1953 where he met Eleanore Erna Wahrheit, whom he married on October 2, 1954 in Calgary, Canada.They lived in Richmond, Virginia for the 59 years they were married until she predeceased him in 2013.They loved to travel and play golf at the Country Club of Virginia and were a true love story as evidenced by their frequent laughter and hand holding!They had many wonderful friends and their Bridge Club group created many special memories together.They had one daughter, Mary Gentner (Tommy) and four grandchildren; Ty (Gabby), Blake, Riley and Wyatt.He is predeceased by siblings Martha McCrary and Mary Johnston and is survived by siblings Sarah Drummond, Frank Blakemore and Bill Blakemore, in addition to many nieces and nephews and their families.He is also survived by his sister-in-law Lilo Splittgerber (Harold) and their daughters and their families.He was the quintessential southern gentleman and he will be greatly missed.His family wishes to express our love and gratitude to Dahlia Diabate who took such amazing care of him his last two years.
