On February 3, 2013, G. LeRoy Haslup, 92, a retired Data Processing Mananger at Koppers Co. for 43 years passed away at Gilchrist Hospice Center in Towson, MD. Mr. Haslup lived in and around the Baltimore area throughout his life, graduating from Baltimore City College and Strayers Business College. He started working for Koppers Co. in 1940 and when the WWII started he enlisted in the Navy in June 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged as a Chief Specialist I Petty Officer in March 1946. He served as an elder at Faith Presbyterian Church and was active in many other functions having taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Deacons and an active singer in the choir for 65 years. He was Past Commander of the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Memorial Post #174 of the American Legion and because of his singing ability, sang the National Anthem for many patriotic affairs. LeRoy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ellen Sams in 2002. He is survived by his three loving daughters, Susan Lee Ruhl of Monkton, Sharon Jean Haslup of Frederick and Shirley Kay Martelo of Ocean City as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charlestown Benevolent Care Fund. Mr. Haslup rests at the family operated HUBBARD FUNERAL HOME, INC., 4107 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21229 where family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 6-8pm and on Friday 9:30-10am at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel � Charlestown, 719 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville, Maryland 21228, where a funeral service will follow.
