On April 18, 2016, Frances Tharpe Butterbaugh passed away at the age of 88.She was the loving wife of the late Franklin C. Butterbaugh and is survived by her daughters, Jane M. Shapiro and her husband Gary, Susan L. Walsh and her husband Don, and Alice L. Brantley and her husband Franklin. She was "Grandmom" and "Mimi" to 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.Beloved by the Butterbaugh family from the time she married Franklin in 1947, she was the sister-in-law of Thomas E. Butterbaugh and his wife the late Irene, Ethel I. Darragh and her husband William, the late F. Meryl Baker and her late husband Clyde and the late Elizabeth C. Horsey and her late husband Wilson.

Frances worked for over 25 years at Rolling Road School as a teachers' aide and enjoyed deep friendships with her colleagues for decades after her retirement.

With an ever-present sense of humor, Frances was a devoted mother, wife, neighbor and a good friend.She delighted in the company of children. She was a baker of cakes, (particularly known for her Easter lambs and walnut cakes), a walker and swimmer, and a flower gardener. Over the 67 years of their marriage, Frances and Franklin enjoyed camping in Garrett County, eating hard-shelled crabs, winters in Florida, and singing and dancing to the tunes of their era.
