Obituary

On December 2nd, 2022, Elaine LoJacono Jenks passed away peacefully at her residence in Catonsville, MD, with her family close by.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years James (Jim) Jenks, her daughter Jane Huynh, daughter Ann Redding, son John (Jack) Jenks, daughter Rose Hunsberger, sister Catherine LoJacono, brother Leo LoJacono Jr., four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Elaine was born on February 10th, 1935 to Leo F. LoJacono Sr. and Florence Loring LoJacono of Washington, DC. She attended parochial schools in Washington, graduated from Wilson Teachers College in Washington, and earned her Masters degree in Education from American University. She taught in the DC public schools for a number of years before marrying and starting her family. She continued to work with children as a tutor and special education teacher for many years after leaving the regular classroom.

In 1975, Elaine and Jim Jenks and family moved into the newly built house in Accokeek, MD that would serve as the home to multiple generations of the family until 2011, when Elaine and Jim moved to the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, MD.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Elaine and Jim lived in Ormond Beach, FL in order to help care for Elaine's mother Florence. The couple moved back to Accokeek after Florence's passing in 2006.

Elaine was a lifelong Girl Scout. She started as a girl as a member of various troops, and as an adult continued as a troop leader and volunteer. She loved the outdoors and camping, and had a particular affection for Girl Scout campfire singing, and for passing along the songs to multiple generations of girls. Her daughters and granddaughter were all Girl Scouts in their time.

There will be a Memorial Gathering for Elaine at 2pm on February 11, 2023 at the Wilton Overlook building in the Charlestown community in Catonsville, MD.
