Rick Harrington's Testimonial for Edna Harrington

Edna Harrington was my Mom.  She grew up in the hard times of the 1930's & 1940's in Baltimore MD, After World War II she met my Dad John Harrington and they fell madly in love with each other. They married and bought the house that she lived in until the day she passed away. She gave birth to 2 sons Rick and Terry and they always came first. She was grounded in her Catholic faith and went to church every Sunday and Holy Day. She never missed a Sunday or Holy Day. Her faith was the cornerstone of her belief that it was better to give than receive and her faith was the basis for most all her decisions and how to live her life. She always did what was best for family and friends even at her own expense.

Edna raised me with strong morals and showed me the right way to live by her example. I really got a kick out of looking in her check book and seeing each Month about 10+ charitable contributions. She felt the less fortunate than her deserved her help. She loved her daughter in law Debbie and cherished every moment with her 4 grandchildren Brigid, Michael, Suzanne, and Danny. She felt blessed to see one of her great grandchildren Julian before she left us.

Mom was always straight to the point and would let you know what she thought without hesitation. Sometimes you would think "did she just say that"?

Mom loved her neighbors and they loved her. Her closest neighbor were Ken and Donna Hood.  Ken and Donna thought of my mom as their mom and looked after her always. Having Donna and Ken there looking out for my mom was a great relief and gave me peace of mind knowing they were always there for her. They made my mid more at ease. God will never forget what they did for my mom and I know I never will either.

Mom always had dogs and spoiled everyone one of them. If her last dog named Sunny was ever entered into a treat eating contest, I'm sure he would have won his weight class. It seemed mom was having him train every night just case the contest took place. Mom just wanted every living creature to be happy.

The last few years it was tough to see my mom's mobility decline and I was trying to get her to move to Reno after her fall down the stairs but she was having none of it. She told me she would know when it was time to make that move. I had hoped to have at least a few more years with her but God had other plans. God took her swiftly early Thursday morning Nov. 12th. God in his kindness and love took her swiftly without much suffering as I sure he saw the way she lived her life and earned this end of life. The world has lost a great person and role model and I have lost the greatest person I have ever known. The hurt I am experiencing writing this is horrible but knowing mom she is asking God to ease my pain. As always never thinking about herself first.

In time the pain of losing her will subside when I fully realize she at peace in heaven with my Dad.

I love you Mom. Always did and always will.   Rest in peace.

Love Rick
