Obituary

Otton, Edmond G. Edmond G. Otton, long-time resident of the Baltimore area, passed away in Lakewood, Colorado on April 25, 2010. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 3, 1918 to Edmond G. Otton, Jr. and Hazel D. Mills. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1939. After working for oil companies for a few years, Ed joined the U.S. Geological Survey as a ground-water geologist. He married Lucile R. Fredigke of Evanston, Illinois on May 3, 1941. During the early years of WW II he was assigned to find water for war plants and military installations. Late in the war he served in the army and was stationed in Panama preparing soldiers for chemical warfare during the planned invasion of Japan. After the war he returned to the USGS, eventually coming to the Baltimore, Maryland office in the spring of 1949. He became an expert on the ground-water resources of the State of Maryland. He retired from the USGS in 1983 and traveled extensively with Lucile. He and Lucile moved to the Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville in 1993. Lucile passed away in August of 2000 after 59 years of marriage. He was a member of the Towson Kiwanis and VFW Post 219. In August of 2004 Ed moved to Lakewood to be closer to his son and family. He lived in a retirement community there until the effects of age claimed his life. He is survived by his son, James K. (Sue) Otton, daughter, Janet S. (Michael) Borradaile, six grandchildren, April Greenwood, Jennifer (Matt) Reed, Rebecca (John) Riding, Marie (Kevin) Hammerschmidt, Danielle Borradaile and Michael Borradaile and 7 great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Marriottsville on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM.
