Carol "Maw-Maw" Lombardo passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, surrounded by those who loved her.
Carol was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 18, 1938, in the 9th Ward, the oldest of two children.Carol was a graduate of Holy Angels Academy and Meadows-Draughon Business College where she attained the skills she used to begin her career as a legal secretary.Carol married her high school sweetheart, Lt. Col. Roy S. Lombardo, Jr., with whom she spent the next 63 years.Together, they embarked on a life of service to their country and their community.As an officer's wife, Carol was tasked with the unfortunate responsibility of informing the wives and families of soldiers who were lost, which she did with strength, compassion, and kindness.She embraced all with an easy grace and affectionate care.
Carol was blessed with a large and loving family.She raised her four children, Wendy, Erin, Lance, and Kevin, with patience, discipline, and unlimited love.Over the years, her four children each married and blessed her with nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, who filled her house with love and laughter on many a holiday, on weekends, and sometimes even just a Sunday supper.
"Champagne Maw-Maw" will be remembered for her delicious, Cajun meals, her love of an afternoon cocktail, her Little Johnny jokes, her infectious laugh, her love of Fox News, and her never-ending quest to win the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
For friends and family wishing to say goodbye, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Hubbard Funeral Home, 4107 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.A celebration of her life will take place at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church, 2612 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21223 on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carol's name to either Saint Benedict's Catholic Church, 2612 Wilkens Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21223, or to a charity of their choosing.
