Bob Dempsey was born at Strouds, WV, the son of Lula Hannah Dempsey and Hart Dempsey. He was one of 9 children. He was predeceased by brothers Lemon Dempsey, Charles E. Dempsey, Pat R. Dempsey, Payge O. Dempsey and sisters infant Wilda Dempsey, Hildred Dempsey Bragg, Mildred Dempsey Curry and Nellie Dempsey Blankenship. After graduating Cowen High School in West Virginia in 1950, Bob enlisted in the Marine Corps for four years during the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and UN Service Medal. He held the rank of SSGT with specialty of Aviation Supply Chief. Upon honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Bob moved to Maryland where he married his childhood sweetheart, Louise Beckett. He began work in the Bethlehem Steel Shipyards. He later worked for Kaiser Aluminum until they closed their plant. He worked in construction as the Carling Brewery plant was built and then was employed there in maintenance. He worked as a mechanic and earned a stationary engineer�s license while working at Rentex Uniform Company. He subsequently worked as an engineer for the State of Maryland at the University of Maryland Baltimore County Campus until his retirement. Bob was a devoted husband to his wife Louise Beckett Dempsey of 60 years, loving father to three children: Jeffrey L. Dempsey (wife Anita Pardy), Cheryl A. Dempsey Rose (husband Drannin Rose) and Stephen E. Dempsey (wife Mary Bergmann). He had 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and The American Legion. A skilled engineer, carpenter, and mechanic, Bob did renovations and built additions to his home and was often called upon to do work for family, friends and neighbors. In addition to working on projects in his well-organized workshop, he loved spending time with his family, listening to music, fishing, and sports. He was a member of the Milford Mill United Methodist Church in Baltimore County. Memorial donations in Bob�s memory may be made to the Alzheimer�s Disease Association or the Charlestown Retirement Community Benevolent Care Fund.
