On Thursday July 27th, 2023, Anita Louise Snyder (nee Gardner) "Nin" passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 20th, 1942 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Carmela Vaccaro and the late Charles Gardner. She is the oldest of her siblings the late Charles Gardner (Gladys), Gloria Gardner, Janice Fenyes (Warren), and Thomas Gardner (Margie). She was married to her loving husband the late Stanley Snyder. She is the beloved mother of Carmela Brown (Albert), the late Charles Snyder, and Carmel D'Antonio (Ron). She is the devoted grandmother to Timothy Anderson (Darianna), Angelina Brown, the late Breanna Snyder, Sara D'Antonio, Gabrielle Brown (Dustin), and Cecelia Brown. She is the devoted great-grandmother to Gary Jr, the late Ryder, Aaliyah, Alexus, and Kennard. She was loved by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and relatives.
The matriarch of her family, she lived in Baltimore most of her life and built an amazing life with her family. She met her husband Stanley down the street from her house where he drove trucks. The connection was instant and soon after they married in September 1960. By 1963 they had their first born Charles and in 1966 they had their second born Carmel. Throughout that time Anita owned her own ceramic shop and taught ceramics right in Pigtown of Baltimore City. Her store, A Original Ceramics, was known by many.
She was like a mother to many in her family and not just their aunt, cousin, grandmother, etc. She raised all of us like her own and made sure we had everything we could possibly need in life and looked after everyone. Even in her last few years she would worry over her family and make sure they were alright before worrying about herself. She was the most selfless, loving, caring, and devoted woman anyone could ever know.
Over the years the family took camping trips. They spent time swimming, playing horse shoes, camping out on the bus, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs by the campfire, and making great memories. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting, baking cookies, reading, painting, doing search word puzzles, gardening her infamous rose bushes and African violets, putting puzzles together with family so Stanley could frame them, and watching her daily Soap Operas and never missing a single day of Victor Newman.
Everyone knew to come to "Nin's house" for family events and holidays. She always had the famous train garden and nativity scene under the Christmas tree. She made sure that when you came to Nin's house you had something to eat and if you weren't hungry you were gonna eat regardless. From making potato salad to homemade stuffed shells and meatballs, her meals were like no other. She enjoyed spending time with her family, whether it was to visit family in Altoona, Pennsylvania or all the way in Lakeland, Florida she made time for everyone and anyone. She loved her pets, and considered them like family, and always had dogs around her that she was feeding her food to.
She was the president for many years of the Order of Sons of Italy of America. Where her family became members as newborns and followed her through the years during the meetings. She made many memories and long lasting friends during that time.
