Obituary

Alfred "Fred" Frederick Mehl, 56, died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 27, 2022, at Gilchrist Hospice. He was surrounded and comforted by family in his final days.

Born, April 10, 1966, Fred was the son of Edward Mehl, Jr., and the late Rosemary Lucchesi Mehl.

Fred lived to serve others and was loved by many. He is predeceased by his mother Rosemary Lucchesi Mehl and grandparents Edward and Grace Mehl and Anna and Alfred Lucchesi. He is survived by his father Edward Mehl, Jr., and stepmother Patricia, and siblings and spouses Anna and Steve Mock, Edward, III and Valerie Mehl, Robert Mehl and Mikael de Andrade, and Diane and Steve Hall, his beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and step brother and sisters, as well as many friends whom he loved as family.

Fred enjoyed airplanes and air travel and most recently worked in the administrative offices of Southwest Airlines. He was formerly employed as an event and meeting organizer for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. He was a high school and club volleyball referee, served on his condo board and was an avid cruiser.

Fred will be remembered most for his kindness and generosity. He always put others before self and enjoyed nothing more than helping people. Whether it was driving hundreds of miles to aid a relative or friend, helping prepare food for a family gathering, or simply carrying out the trash for an elderly neighbor, there was no task too big or too small, and one need not ask. Fred intuitively knew and offered aid to anyone in need.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Community, 915 Liberty Road, Eldersburg, MD. The family will receive visitors following the funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Chaminade Parish Center. Interment will be private.
